The Dunham Difference - Detroit - July 8-15 2008 - Updated July 1st
Hi All: It is that time of year again when we celebrate the Life and Legacy of the late Katherine Dunham--Dance Artist, Anthropologist, Activist, Humanitarian, Painter, Writer, and Creator of one of the most amazing dance techniques in the world today. Attached you will find the specifics of our week entitled: "The Dunham Difference: Empowerment". July 8 - 15, 2008. Come out and see how her life's work can contribute to a greater sense of empowerment in you! Learn the value of the MIND-BODY-SPIRIT connection for yourself. In the tradition of Dunham's social consciousness, the Detroit Legacy Project each year chooses a social issue to bring before its audiences. Informational programming engages audiences in thoughtful consideration of viable solutions and provides literature connecting participants with available resources. This year's topic: "The Health of the Family". Programming includes lecture, discussion, performing arts presentations such as dance, traditional African drumming, storytelling, and more. Master Classes appropriate for the entire family will be taught by Madame Penny Godboldo who was mentored by Dunham for over two decades. Healthy lifestyle choices will be discussed by professionals and various activities promoting good health will be offered to those who attend. Most activities are completely free of charge; a nominal fee for master classes to help defray costs.
